About Me
My name is David Brennan. I am standing in the Louth constituency in the forthcoming general election and I am seeking your #1 vote. My wife Mavis and I are married 55 years. We have two children and five grandchildren. It’s because of my grandchildren that I am doing this. I believe I can help make this country a greater place for them and all the children of their generation.
I spent the earlier part of my life working on the family farm. In addition to this I won Entrepreneur of the Year in 1978 and opened a factory manufacturing clay shooting targets and I continue to work in the shooting sports industry to the present time. Having helped modernise the family farm and successfully managing my business for over 47 years I feel I have an expertise to help the people achieve a greater and more efficient service from the State at a realistic cost to the Taxpayer.
I attended the De La Salle boys’ school in Ardee until 1962 and then St. Patricks Agricultural College.
Throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s I worked with my father and brother on further building and modernising the family dairy farm. By the late 1960’s, our farm had become much more responsive to the demands of an expanding national economy, international markets, and the requirements of what would eventually become the
European Union.
I developed an interest in clay target shooting and realised that the main products of my chosen sport were imported. I set about researching the manufacture of clay shooting targets. This project earned me the tile of “Entrepreneur of the Year 1978”, an initiative promoted by the Irish Independent and the ICC Bank.
I went on to open a factory producing clay shooting targets. My first day of production was 12th March 1979. I continued to manufacture until the mid-eighties. At this time, I changed my business model, but I continued in the shooting sports industry to the present time.
I have represented my country internationally, not only on the shooting sports field, but also in Europe as a delegate on different Trade organisations. For many years I have also represented Co. Louth in the All-Ireland clay shooting championships.
This year representing Co. Louth was very special as I was accompanied by my Grandson Callum. He had qualified to compete in the Junior section and I in the Super Veterans Section. There are not many sports in Ireland where Grandson and Granddad can compete in the same event.
Currently, I am the Managing Director of Ardee Sports while my daughter Rachael is the Financial Director, and my son Martin is the Sales Director. Strong family support, a well-established business rooted in a vibrant local community, and an encouraging network of friends and colleagues are the primary drivers that enable and inspire me to run for public office.
I believe public service is still an honourable concept and - when elected -I will use all my extensive experience and considerable energy to work for what I believe to be for the common good and in the best interests of our country and its citizens.
